Aussie hip hop staples, Seth Sentry and Pez, delivered a much-loved performance to a crowd of diehard fans last weekend. 16 years after they last toured together, this duo from Frankston have reunited for their Off The Beaten Track tour, taking them from as far north as Darwin all the way down to Launceston.
Following the support act, Pez took to the stage and impressed with crowd faves including “The Festival Song”, “Weekend” and new single “Dad Joke’s on You”.
Sentry’s tour DJ and bestie, DJ Sizzle, looking like a Men In Black impersonator, had a clear purpose - to fire up this testosterone-heavy crowd - and soon the capped heads and bodies were bouncing along. At one point, Sentry remarked, “This is a good vibe. I like it.”
Receiving lots of cheers holding up a pink hoverboard, they launched into “Dear Science” with its nod to Back To The Future. Other stand-out favourites were “The Waitress Song” and especially “Hell Boy” with Sentry’s announcement that Sizzle would crowd-surf to the bar and back to retrieve a beer, but of course, it failed spectacularly with its contents lost in seconds.
Having opened the tour the previous night in Cairns, Sentry shared his observation that the Townsville audience was “like a different species” to our northern counterparts. Maybe he says that at all his shows, but he appeared to be impressed with the energy and spirit in front of him.
Their return to the stage for an encore was punctuated with distribution of some sushi to those in the front section, and then the crowd chanted their request for “Room for Rent” which was an epic conclusion. I reckon there may have been a few sore heads the next morning after this memorable performance.
