When you see a tribute band with a name like Lies N Destruction, you know you’re in for a night of unfiltered rock nostalgia—and these Sydney rockers delivered it in spades. Playing Guns N' Roses’ iconic Appetite for Destruction in full, they turned a Saturday night into a time machine straight back to the 80s.
The musicians were no slackers. These guys knew their instruments—and the album—like Slash knows his way around a whiskey bottle. Every song was tight, earning them some serious headbangs and air guitar moments from the crowd. Their attention to detail extended beyond the music: the lead singer’s vocal impersonation of Axl Rose was eerily accurate, and the band’s 80s attire, from cheesy wigs and hats to sleeveless tops, was a feast for the retro-starved eyes.
Midway through Appetite for Destruction, the band paused for a short break, a move that felt delightfully old-school—like flipping over a cassette tape to play Side B. The crowd loved favourites like Sweet Child O' Mine, Paradise City, and Welcome to the Jungle, transforming the room into a sea of fists in the air and questionable dance moves.
After a quick 20-minute breather, the band returned to treat the audience to a selection of fan favourites and deeper cuts from Guns N' Roses’ discography. By this point, the “mature-aged” crowd—let’s face it, most of us—was fully reliving our glory days.
In the end, Lies N Destruction gave us a night to remember - a love letter to Appetite for Destruction - and a chance to headbang like it’s 1987 all over again. Here’s to rock ’n’ roll, nostalgia, and tribute bands that make us feel like the jungle is still ours.
