On the eve of tropical cyclone Koji forming, the Daly radiated summer vibes with a three-act line up to celebrate the new year with a smorgasbord of blues, indie and surf-rock tunes. Thank God the weather didn’t put a stop to (or a dampener on) this awesome rock line-up.

Hailing from the Whitsundays was the opening act, the Diesel Gypsies with the raspy vocals of singer Tahlia Meadows, and heavy guitar work from her bandmates. These guys were a lot of fun and nicely warmed up the crowd for a fun night ahead. Check out their debut album/EP Dirty Laundry n’ Bleach and standout tracks "Tango with the Devil" and "Sweet Shack".

Next up, Gold Coast four‑piece Vlads kept the energy rolling with a set soaked in surf‑rock sunshine. Sporting their signature moustaches and caps, they delivered jangly, upbeat tunes that felt tailor‑made for a warm coastal night. Their sound is tight, confident, and unmistakably theirs. With tracks like "Cherry Lipstick" and "Ordinary" already turning heads, it’s easy to imagine these guys making serious waves in 2026.

The main event, Brisbane’s own Beddy Rays, arrived to a crowd that clearly knew every word of their coastal punk catalogue. Their setlist pulled from both albums, sparking plenty of singalongs—especially during fan favourites "Sobercoaster", "All I Wanna Do" and "Pocket Rocket".
Their latest album Do What You Wanna is packed with hooks, and more than a few earworms that linger for days. With their lead guitarist out for the night, album co‑producer Matt Cochran stepped in seamlessly, ensuring the show didn’t miss a beat.
A standout moment came when the band cheekily dropped a taste of AC/DC’s "Highway to Hell" before launching into their Triple J Like a Version cover of Cold Chisel’s "Khe Sanh"—pure gold and a crowd‑pleaser. Here’s hoping we see Beddy Rays back in NQ before too long.
